Missouri: Story and Photos
We spent the next four days in St Louis so Joe could work a few more
days. During that
time we put new clutch plates in my bike with help from Hard Luck SC.
I got a chance to
scoot around the Gateway city, visiting sites such as the Anheiser
Busch plant (free beer)
and the International Bowling Museum and Hall of Fame.
Mother nature provided great scenery for us after leaving St
Louis. We were only
on four miles of interstate in the over 300 miles of Missouri 66. The
old road rolled over
gentle hills and through historic small towns in the Ozarks. East of
Springfield my clutch
went out again. Joe managed to rebuild it, and get my bike back on
the road in 45
minutes. We finally figured out that the problem was a badly run clutch
cable. That night
we made it to Joplin where we stayed in a vintage 50's neon palace
motel, the Dutch
Village.
The next morning we were questioned by a guy named Bob, who formerly
owned
a Vespa while living in Los Angeles. He told us stories of his days
roadieing for Black
Flag. We talked about old punk bands for a while, and we were on our
way for the last 5
miles of Missouri.
